Forsch.; VOL 41 ISS 8 1991, P852-854, (REF 10) ABSTRACT IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The efficacy of 2% ketoconazole cream (Nizoral) was compared with that of a bland cream (placebo) in 60 patients with seborrheic dermatitis in a randomized, controlled trial. Both erythema and scaling were markedly reduced with ketoconazole. It was concluded that the topical application of 2% ketoconazole cream can be considered a rational treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. 1 AUTHOR Berger R AUTHOR Mills OH AUTHOR Jones EL AUTHOR Mrusek S TITLE Double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of ketoconazole 2% shampoo in the treatment of moderate to severe dandruff SOURCE Adv. Ther.; VOL 7 ISS Sep-Oct 1990, P247-256, (REF 15) ABSTRACT IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The effectiveness of 2% ketoconazole shampoo (Nizoral) twice weekly for one month was studied in 52 subjects with active dandruff with or without accompanying seborrheic dermatitis in a double blind, placebo controlled trial. The effect of ketoconazole was significantly better than that of placebo for the principal efficacy parameter of adherent dandruff at 15 and 29 days. On day 29, 71% of those treated with the drug but only 38% of those who received placebo demonstrated a 75% reduction in adherent dandruff. No adverse reactions occurred. At the conclusion of the study responders were placed back on placebo and reported times of relapse of dandruff's symptoms, which were 15.1 days for ketoconazole versus 11.3 days for placebo. 1 AUTHOR Katsambas A AUTHOR Antoniou C AUTHOR Frangouli E AUTHOR Avgerinou G AUTHOR Stratigos J AUTHOR et al TITLE Double-blind trial of treatment of seborrheic dermatitis with 2% ketoconazole cream compared with 1% hydrocortisone cream SOURCE Br. J. Dermatol.; VOL 121 ISS Sep 1989, P353-357, (REF 18) ABSTRACT IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP A double blind study comparing the efficacy and safety of 2% ketoconazole (I) cream with a standard therapy of one % hydrocortisone (II) cream in 50 patients with seborrheic dermatitis is described. Twice daily applications for 4 wk resulted in 87.2% symptomatic improvement for II vs. 81.6% for I. The incidence of side effects was low in both groups. 2 AUTHOR Cornell RC AUTHOR Ellis CN TITLE Comparison of the efficacy and safety of amcinonide lotion 0.1% with those of betamethasone valerate lotion 0.1% in patients with seborrheic dermatitis SOURCE Curr. Ther. Res.; VOL 46 ISS Sep 1989, P577-586, (REF 4) ABSTRACT IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP A randomized, blinded study was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of amcinonide (I) 0.1% lotion with those of betamethasone valerate (II) 0.1% lotion in 54 patients (aged 23-81 yr) with seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp who received I or II, applied to the scalp twice daily for 3 wk. Mean improvements from baseline in the I treated groups were significantly greater than those in the II group with regard to erythema at days 14 and 21 and to scaling at days 7 and 21. There were no statistically significant differences between treatment groups with respect to excoriation or pruritus. The physician's overall evaluation showed excellent response or complete clearing in 88% of I treated patients and 79% of II treated patients, not a significant difference. Adverse reactions were few and were related to cosmetic acceptability. It was concluded that I and II were effective for the treatment of seborrhea, with I being effective more quickly and to a greater degree. 4 AUTHOR Kuokkanen K AUTHOR Zador G TITLE Double-blind comparison of betamethasone dipropionate with salicylic acid (diprosalic) and budesonide ointment in the treatment of psoriasis SOURCE Curr. Ther. Res.; VOL 34 ISS Sep 1983, P459-468, (REF 17) ABSTRACT IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP The efficacy and tolerance of 0.05% betamethasone 17,21-dipropionate (I; betamethasone dipropionate) with 3% salicylic acid (II) ointment (Diprosalic) were compared with 0.025% budesonide (III) ointment (Preferid) in 24 patients with psoriasis. Patients were treated on one side with I/II and on the other side with III over a period of 3 wk. Both treatments produced similar amelioration of scaling and pruritus, but I/II was superior to III at wk 2 and 3 with regard to clearance of induration and erythema. The overall improvement pattern revealed a statistically significant difference in favor of I/II. The combination of I/II tended to produce a more rapid onset of action than III. No side effects were reported. 5 AUTHOR Hillstrom L AUTHOR Pettersson L AUTHOR Svensson L TITLE Comparison of betamethasone dipropionate lotion with salicylic acid (Diprosalic) and clobetasol propionate lotion (Dermovate) in the treatment of psoriasis of the scalp. SOURCE J Int Med Res; VOL 10, ISS 6, 1982, P419-22 ABSTRACT A double-blind comparison was made between Diprosalic and Dermovate lotions in fifty-one patients with psoriasis of the scalp. Both preparations were highly effective. No significant difference in efficacy between the preparations could be demonstrated after 3 weeks treatment except for antipruritic effect, in this respect Diprosalic being superior to Dermovate. Only three patients (two in the Dermovate group, and one in the Diprosalic group) experienced minor adverse reactions. Plasma cortisol levels were determined in seventeen of the patients and no significant influence on the adrenal function could be shown on the part of either of the preparations.
