For the fourth quarter in a row, Crown's per station gasoline sales have declined. Crown's lowering of gasoline prices, coupled with expensive promotional gimmicks, has not stopped Crown's drop in gasoline sales. Notable is that these declines have occurred during a period of overall increases in nationwide gasoline consumption.
Crown has also cut back on its Pasadena refinery production by 30 percent. We surmise that Crown is trying to cut losses. Crown's problem is not only falling demand for its products, but poor operating results at its Pasadena refinery. The more the company produces with low-skilled and non-union SCAB labor, the more money it loses.
Major support for the boycott has been forthcoming from the Atlanta Labor Council, Atlanta Jobs with Justice, Jefferson County Labor Council, Metropolitan Baltimore Council of AFL-CIO unions, and the Richmond Labor Council. Special thanks also go to RWDSU members in Birmingham, UAW members up and down the East Coast, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) Local 355.
